The experience

Giving the night every chance.

Northern lights can't be ordered. What can be prepared are the conditions: dark nights, a clear sky, a place far from the lights, and enough nights on site for luck to turn.

We choose the places and dates with you, and we stay outside with you. For photographers, we help you set up your camera for the night sky.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

When can you see the northern lights in Canada?

From September to April, on clear, dark nights, far from the lights. The winter months offer the longest nights.

Are the northern lights guaranteed?

No, it is a natural phenomenon. We maximise your chances with several nights on site and carefully chosen locations.

Yukon or Churchill?

Both are excellent. The Yukon pairs well with dog sledding, Churchill with polar bears in autumn.

How should I dress to watch the northern lights?

Viewing is done standing still, often for hours: that is when you feel the cold most. The three-layer principle: a base layer in merino wool or synthetic (never cotton), an insulating layer in fleece or down, then a windproof parka. Mittens rather than gloves, and cold-weather boots one size up. Add down trousers or insulated overalls, and hand warmers placed next to the skin, never directly on it.

What gear do I need to photograph the northern lights?

A sturdy tripod, a remote or self-timer, several batteries kept warm and a cover for the camera. When you come back inside, leave it in its closed bag for an hour to avoid condensation.

Do I need specific insurance?

Yes. Check that it covers the planned activity, medical evacuation and repatriation, as well as cancellation or delays due to weather. Keep the assistance number on paper and on your phone.
